Bran Castle is one of the most impressive architectural tourist attractions in Romania, marked by both history and legend. It is captivating from the first sight, because of its position on a high hill, dominating the nearby area. It is near Brasov, surrounded by marvelous landscapes, as the castle lies between Bucegi and Piatra Craiului Mountains, at the entrance of Rucar - Bran Pass. It was built between 1377 - 1378 in the Turcului Gorges (the Turks' Gorges) by Ludovic I, in Renaissance style and first attested in 1377, in a letter written by Ludovic I D'Anjou. |

Peles Royal Castle at Sinaia, on Prahova Valley, was built between 1873 – 1883 and 1896 – 1914 by Carol I, in German Renaissance style with Gothic elements, while the park of the Peles Castle is in Italian – Renaissance style. It was the summer residence of Romania’s kings, today, being an art museum. It was the first castle in Europe that had electricity and central heating. The architecture of the royal palace with its fairytale turrets and towers rising up the sky is magnificent. The castle has 160 rooms with a height of 66 meters. The rooms are really grandiose; in the king’s office there is an alignment of Rembrandt reproductions, in the library a row of books holds back a secret passage that leads to the second floor of the castle, where is the gallery of mirrors and the dining room with leather – clad ceiling. There are also the Poetry Room with scenes from old Romanian fairytales, while in the Florence Hall are some impressive Michelangelo reproductions; the Venetian room isn’t less impressive. In the park near the castle, are the statues of the king Carol I and the Queen Elisabeta, known also as Carmen Silva. |
