Brukenthal Museum

Brukenthal Museum at Sibiu, one of the oldest and finest art gallery in Romania, was founded in 1817 and it’s in the baroque palace (funded in 1785) of Baron Samuel Brukental (1721 – 1803), former Austrian governor. Inside the museum there is an excellent paintings collection and, except this, there are also archaeological, folk art and a butterflies collection. Worth seeing is also the palace’s library, still intact, containing about 280,000 books.

Sibiel Museum

The museum is worth visiting, being one of Romania’s best museums. It is inside a blue – painted building and houses an impressive collection of more than 600 icons richly painted on glass. Among various icons, there are some representing the Virgin Mary. The tradition asks that an icon of the Virgin Mary should be included in every young girl’s dower, representing the virginity and also the fertility of the bride – to – be.
